How many days an Indian wedding lasts, and what happens on each one

An Indian wedding is not one long event. It is several distinct events chained together, each with its own venue, wardrobe, time of day and light. That is the difference that surprises anyone coming from an eight-hour Western wedding, and it drives almost everything else: how many operators are needed, how much gear travels, and what can realistically be delivered.

The three-day pattern

It is the most common shape for destination weddings in Mexico, because it concentrates a family that flew in from another country and cannot stay two weeks.

Day 1 — Mehndi and Sangeet. Mehndi is the henna application for the bride: intimate, daytime, almost always indoors or in shade. Sangeet lands at night and is the opposite — music, choreographed performances by both families, a stage and show lighting. The same day asks for two entirely different camera approaches.

Day 2 — Haldi in the morning, main ceremony after. Haldi is the turmeric ritual: outdoors, hard light, saturated colour and yellow paste flying. The main ceremony changes with the couple’s faith — Anand Karaj if Sikh, Nikah if Muslim, or the Hindu ceremony under the mandap. Each has its own protocol, its own moments that never repeat, and its own rules about where a camera may stand.

Day 3 — Reception. Party format: grand entrance, speeches, first dance. This is the night the Same Day Edit screens, when the couple books one.

Why the number of days moves the budget more than the guest count

Each additional day is a full crew day, not an extension of the previous one. The venue changes, the light changes, the wardrobe changes, and the footage piling up forces a nightly backup workflow.

It is also what makes the Same Day Edit possible: with three days, there are editing nights between ceremonies. In an eight-hour wedding that same deliverable requires an additional editor working on site while the wedding is still happening.

What to settle before hiring anyone

• Which days you want covered. Not every couple covers all five events; some drop the Mehndi.
• How many separate venues are involved. Two hotels forty minutes apart is not the same as everything inside one resort.
• Whether the main ceremony is outdoors. Wind and sunset time dictate the schedule, especially on the coast.
• Whether you want a Same Day Edit. It is decided beforehand, not during — it shapes the entire crew.
